REVEALED: Real Madrid Asked Pep Guardiola To Replaced Sacked Rafa Benitez


Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was contacted by Real Madrid to replace Rafa Benitez before his was sacked as coach of the club.

Respected Spanish-based football journalist Graham Hunter told the BBC on Monday, 4th of January that rumours that Guardiola was approached before Benitez sacking was made official was true.

Benitez was officially sacked as coach of Real Madrid late on Monday night despite reports of his exit coming earlier in the day.

Hunter told the BBC: “It’s a fact that six weeks ago they (Madrid) approached him and asked him ‘would you take over?”

He added: “That underlines the fact that Pep is seen as the best appointment by every single club.” Hunter also slammed Madrid’s approach for Guardiola who is a life long Barcelona fan. “It says something about Madrid that they could get it so wrong, that one of the great anti-Madridistas was approached by them,” Hunter added.

Zinedine Zidane will undoubtedly be compared to Pep Guardiola. Could he possibly be as successful?
