I Didn't Go Braless To Promote My Single - Tesh Carter

Nigerian rapper Tesh Carter has finally denied
claims of her going braless to promote her
single, Kilofe. The music diva who was away
for a while to round up her education is back
for good. In this exclusive interview
with Naij.com , she talks about her music
career and rise to fame.
Tell us more about Tesh Carter?
My full name is Teshoma Jacqueline
Omagbitse. I was born on the February 18,
1992, which makes me 23 years old. I am from
Delta State. I attended St Gloria’s Nursery and
Primary school Lagos, Turaki International
School, Kaduna (primary), Zamani College
Kaduna (secondary), and Smc University
Switzerland where I did my bachelors degree in
Business and Management.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Onitsha. My mum happened to
be in that environment before she gave birth.
Then spent a few years of my childhood in
Lagos before we moved to Kaduna in 1997.
Being a kid, it was easy for me to adapt to the
new environment. I spent about 10 years in
Kaduna, so I still consider myself a “Kaduna
girl”. Then I moved back to Lagos in 2008 and
remained there till date.
What influenced your name, Tesh Carter?
Tesh is my actual name. Carter is just a
name I fancied and adopted as time went by.
Have you always had a passion for music?
I have always had a passion for music. When I
was in nursery school, I joined the music club.
I also grew up in an environment where it was
essential you explore your creative side. My
dad made it clear to us, school education
wasn’t everything. At a young age I was
already singing and performing to guests that
came to visit at school events, parties etc. It’s
no surprise I took it up as a career.
What inspired your love for music?
Music has always been a part of me. Just as
some people wake up and start playing
football, it’s the same for me. The passion
coupled with watching other artists grow from
scratch into superstars is what inspires me, as
I wish same for myself.
Who is your mentor?
There are so many people I admire in the
industry. We have the likes of Asa, who are
steady putting out great music, Tuface,
Psquare – for managing to still remain relevant
till date, Don Jazzy and so many others.
Are you signed to a record label?
I am currently signed to Illnostro Records.
How do you intend to keep pushing your
career?
The plan is to keep being consistent. Keep
putting out great music, hard work and a whole
lot of prayers.

Are your parents supportive of your music?
My entire family in fact is a 100 per cent in
support of my career. I have very
understanding parents who believe in me and
want the best for me. They assist me in any
way they can.
What professional path would you have
ventured into if you didn’t go into music?
I manage an oil and gas company on the side
at the moment so I guess I would have taken
up that venture fully if I wasn’t into music. I’m
a business woman.
What do you think about dating someone in the
entertainment industry?
I see nothing wrong with that. It depends on
the person and how well you connect. I see it
same as dating someone who isn’t in the
industry.
Have you ever dated one?
I don’t think I should answer that. Lol!
Are you single or in a relationship?
Oh yes, I’m single. Happily single!
Who is your Nigerian celebrity crush?
No one. I find Banky W sexy but I wouldn’t call
him a crush.
You went braless to promote your new video,
Kilofe, was that a celebrity stunt?
I didn’t go bra less to promote my single. I
couldn’t possibly have worn a ‘bra’ with those
outfits. I love to look good, and that was the
motive behind those shots.
You were away from Nigeria for about three
years, where and why?
I was away for a year. Had to round up my
education in Switzerland
Are you back for good?
Certainly back for good, no distractions now
that I have school done and dusted. Full focus
on the music.
Now that you are back what do you have in
store for us?
After dropping the video for Kilofe the year is
pretty much done but I certainly have a lot in
store for the early quarter of 2016.
How do you rate Nigerian rap music?
Decent.
Do you have an album yet? If you do, tell us a
few things about that.
I don’t have any album released but I look to
drop an album soon.
Who is the most important person in your life?
My family definitely.
What was your worst date ever?
Has to be when I went on a date with some
guy and ended up at the police station
dropping statements. Apparently, he was a
criminal.
