Armed militants have reportedly stormed Peremabir community in the southern Ijaw region of Bayelsa a few days to the supplementary election in the state.
The Sun reports that the militants stormed the community and started firing sporadically on Tuesday, January 5.
The state election which was a fierce face-off between the incumbent governor, Seriake d*ckson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The election in the southern Ijaw region which was held on December 5, 2015 was cancelled due to violence and irregularities and ahead of the supplementary election scheduled for Saturday; pockets of violence are already being instigated.
It was reported that the militants shot sporadically in Peremabir community and people scampered around for safety. Following the incident, naval officers were deployed to the region to maintain peace.
Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, the director of Publicity in Restoration Campaign Organisation, a PDP agency confirmed the incident and pointed accusing fingers at the APC.

The traditional ruler and elders of Peremabiri community however dismissed report that there was heavy gunfire in the community. Chief Simeon Karibo who spoke on behalf of the community claimed it was safe.
“Our community is peaceful, contrary to reports being circulated and we are ready for the January 9 election,” he said.
