APC Lands In Trouble Over N92.7m Debt


The Nasarawa state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been dragged to court over N92.7 million debt.

The party was dragged before a state High Court by a team of lawyers it purportedly engaged to represent it at the local government election petition tribunal in 2014, NAN reports.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, January 5 in Lafia, the state capital, Shikammah Sheltu, one of the lawyers said five of them had been engaged by the party to to represent it at the tribunal in respect of chairmanship and councillorship election in 13 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the APC agreed to them N100 million as professional fee but only N7.3 million was paid, leaving a balance of N92.7million.

He noted that several attempts to remind the party to up its debt were unsuccessful, which was why they decided to head to the court.

Sheltu said the hearing of the suit has been fixed for January 19 at the state High Court 1.

Confirming the suit, Aliyu Bello, the APC secretary in the state said the party had received the summon and would respond accordingly.

Recall that in 2014, the Nasarawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party filed 35 petitions before the state’s local government elections tribunal challenging the outcome of results in the council elections in the state.

The party challenged the chairmanship results of Karu, Obi, Akwanga, Doma, Lafia, Nasarawa, and Awe council areas and also the results of nine councillorship polls in Doma, eight in Lafia, and ten in Awe.
