As Nigerians joined Christians all over the world to celebrate Christmas, the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Friday Osanebi, has called for entrenchment of sustainable peace, which he described as a unifying factor needed for national growth.
Osanebi also expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its trials and security challenges.
In his goodwill message, the Deputy Speaker urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Christmas to demonstrate the virtues of peace and love that Jesus Christ personified.
Osanebi said: “Nigeria, and the world at large, is in dire need of peace, especially at this time that insurgency, struggle for political and economic power is threatening peace and co-existence.
“Therefore, Christians, and everyone celebrating Christmas, are under obligation to pray and pursue peace, which is important for national growth. We must eschew all acts of violence that negates the subject of the season— Jesus Christ.”
He pointed out that Christ preached peace and love as bedrock for a better society, stressing that as followers of Christ, “Christians must emulate the virtue of Christ and work for peace.”
